A Guide to Choosing Your Skis

Choosing the right skis can make all the difference to how much fun you have on the slopes.

Here’s a quick guide to help you understand the differences between beginner, intermediate and advanced skis and when it might be time to upgrade.

Beginner Skis

Beginner skis are designed to make learning easier and more enjoyable. They are lighter, more flexible and easier to control — especially at low speeds. The tip is softer to make turning easier, and the overall structure is more forgiving.

We usually recommend skis that come up to about shoulder height: they help with balance and control while you build confidence on green and blue slopes.

For beginners select Easy Skis

When to Move Up a Level

Beginner to Intermediate

It’s probably time to move up to intermediate skis when you’re comfortable on blue runs and starting to try a few red runs. They offer more grip on hard snow and help you ski with more confidence on steep slopes.

Intermediate Skis

As you improve, your skis should evolve too. Intermediate skis are slightly heavier and stiffer, offering better grip and stability — especially on steep or icy slopes.

At this level, you may choose slightly longer skis, up to chin height, for more power in turns and smoother skiing at high speeds.

If you ski confidently on blue slopes and are starting to explore red ones, intermediate skis will help you overcome your limitations with more control and confidence.

For intermediates select Superior Skis

When to Move Up a Level

Intermediate to Advanced

When you are confident on red runs and have tried a few black runs, you may benefit from more performance-oriented skis. Advanced skis offer more stability, precision and responsiveness — perfect for those who want to improve their technique.

Advanced Skis

Experienced skiers often choose between piste skis and all-mountain skis, depending on the slope and conditions.

Piste skis: built for precision and speed. Stiffer and heavier, with strong edge grip on groomed slopes. Perfect for those who love to carve turns on red and black slopes.

All-mountain skis: wider and more versatile. Great on the piste but also suitable for mixed terrain and a bit of off-piste skiing.

At this level, longer skis are common because they offer greater stability at high speeds and on variable snow conditions.
